Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some answers to our most frequently asked questions.

Will my dog have to adjust his/her bathroom, sleeping or playtime habits while boarding? Not at Paws ‘n Claws. Because each pet gets their own indoor accommodations and 24-hour access to a private outdoor patio run, they have a tremendous amount of freedom. They can sleep, play or relieve themselves any time of the day, 24-hours a day! Following their regular schedule helps to make them feel safe and secure.

I need immediate accommodations for my pet. Does my dog need to go through a “temperament consultation” or “evaluation period” prior to his/her stay? There is no need for a “temperament consultation” or “evaluation period” when your pet stays at Paws ‘n Claws because each pet gets their own indoor accommodations with private outdoor patio run. It allows your dog to behave just as they would at home.

I’ve heard that some facilities only offer small crates for boarding my pet. Does Paws ‘n Claws have anything with more room? At Paws ‘n Claws, all of our accommodations are very spacious and larger than most other facilities. In fact, we have extra-large accommodations that allow you to board more than one pet in the same room if you like. In addition, we offer multiple pet discounts.

My dog loves the fresh-air and sunshine of the outdoors. Will he/she be able to go outside and play? If so, how often? Paws ‘n Claws has an advantage over most all other boarding facilities. Our accommodations are very spacious and each one has its own private outdoor patio run. This allows your dog to go outside and enjoy the fresh air and sunshine whenever they like – 24 hours a day!

In addition, we offer a playtime service that allows your pet to enjoy one-on-one private park playtime in our 1/4 –acre enclosed grass area. They are off-leash and free to run and play with one of our staff members.

How many “potty breaks” does my pet get per day? Because all accommodations at Paws ‘n Claws have their very own attached outdoor patio run, your dog can have as many potty breaks as they like! This is another advantage we have over “indoor-only” facilities. It also reduces the risk of bladder infections and anxiety caused by a limited number of potty breaks.

Will my pet have any “potty accidents” when they return home? After a stay at Paws ‘n Claws, it is very unlikely. This is due to our unique indoor/outdoor set up that allows your pet to sleep inside and relieve themselves outside just like at home. All the potty training you’ve done with your pet is just reinforced at Paws ‘n Claws. They are not forced to relieve themselves indoors or on carpets so they are not receiving mixed signals when they stay with us.

Do my dogs mind the fencing construction of the Kennels? Not at all. Actually, it allows them to safely socialize, view and play with their friends and neighbors and there is no risk of them jumping over into their neighbors’ area or getting into territorial disputes that sometimes occur in “free range” settings. Most dogs are familiar and comfortable with this style of fencing as it is common at home, parks and other dog-friendly places. It provides a level of comfort and safety for you and your pet.

Can I schedule my pet to be groomed prior to taking them home after their stay? Absolutely - we recommend that you make an appointment to have them groomed on the last day of their stay. This will ensure that they leave looking and feeling their best!

I noticed that my dog is especially tired after boarding. Is this normal? Yes. A stay at Paws ‘n Claws can be very exciting! Some dogs run around barking at other dogs and have a wonderful time. They often leave exhausted but happy- and sleep a lot the first couple of days they are home.

Are there any suggestions when bringing my dog home from a stay at Paws ‘n Claws? Yes. Some dogs may become overexcited from seeing their owners and the car ride home. Overexcitement may make a pet pant a lot and act thirsty. He/she is probably not really thirsty, and had plenty of water available to them while staying with us. Give them a few ice cubes to tide them over until they settle down.

Also, the same applies with food and you should know that excessive eating and drinking may lead to digestive upsets. Do not feed your pet for about three hours after returning home, and then limit the food and water your provide until they settle back in. Re-establish home patterns by following a normal schedule.
